This has been an exciting week for the Alliance and our fight against the ongoing endemic of secondary fractures: We officially launched the Australian National Clinical Standards for Secondary Fracture Prevention.
The Standards were launched on Wednesday at Parliament House in Canberra by Dr Mike Freelander MP, the Co-Chair of the Parliamentary Friends of Preventative & Public Health, and General Practice. We thank all those who attended the launch, including Assistant Minister Rebecca White MP and Carol Berry MP.

The Standards represent the culmination of two years of tireless work by the Alliance and its Members to address the rising number of osteoporotic fractures, which affect countless people and cost Australia nearly $3 billion every year.
The Standards can now be found on our website (and are attached to this post) and we strongly encourage you to distribute them widely. The Standards build on the success New Zealand has seen with the adoption of their own set of similar Standards in 2021, as well as the success seen in Australia with the Hip Fracture Clinical Care Standard.
We thank everyone who has been part of the journey so far and look forward to continuing to work with you as we push for the Standards to be implemented nationwide in conjunction with calling for funding for the Australian Fragility Fracture Registry.
